Off-Grid Expandable Cottage

Our expandable cottages can be configured for off-grid living with solar power, battery storage, water storage and wastewater management. This makes them suitable for remote properties without access to mains utilities.

Off-Grid Options

Solar power systems — rooftop solar panels configured to meet your power needs.

Battery storage — store excess solar generation for use overnight or during low-sun periods.

Water storage — rainwater tanks for collecting and storing water.

Wastewater/septic guidance — advice on managing wastewater on properties without sewer connection.

Each off-grid option is specified to your property and usage requirements. We recommend discussing your needs with our team.

How Off-Grid Works with Expandable Cottages

The cottage arrives with its standard inclusions (complete kitchen, bathroom, electrical fit-out and plumbing preparation). Off-grid options are added to provide power and water independence.

Solar panels are typically roof-mounted. Battery storage is installed inside the cottage or in an adjacent enclosure. Water tanks and wastewater systems are installed on site during the site preparation phase.

Sizing Your Off-Grid System

The size of your solar array, battery storage and water tanks depends on: the number of occupants, your power usage patterns, available sunlight at your location, and your average rainfall for water collection.

We can help you estimate your needs, but for a precise system design we may recommend consulting with a specialist off-grid system designer.

Expandable Cottages

Designed as relocatable, expandable structures. Their permitted placement and use depend on the property, local planning controls and intended use. They are not represented as Class 1a dwellings.

BPA Cottage Pathway

Designed and documented to support an application for a building permit. Approval is site-specific and remains subject to planning requirements, building surveyor assessment, engineering, reports and relevant authority approval.
